It might be worth £10k in really good condition, but needing the work quoted (and no doubt rather more, too) plus the fake patina and I would value it nearer half that figure.

In agreement with you Mike.

It still irks me a bit that people feel the need to import cars from Aus and NZ when not for their own use. I get it if you see something you like and you buy it and bring it over for your own collection but to simply do it for profit niggles me a bit.

Rootes75,

When the exchange rate of our dollar is high, the travel direction reverses. They tend to float back again. Then our lot make the profit.

Its weird being the same age as old people.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution

Why?
Sorry to say but I am doing the same. Not from Australia or NZ but from the USA (I am located in a LHD country which is why the USA is good hunting ground for us for old British cars).
I do this on a very small scale (1 or 2 cars per year). When I spot a car somewhere for which I think is very cheap, far under the market value, then I buy it. Get it transported overseas and import it. Do necessary work to it if it is needed. Then try to sell it for a profit which usually is the case. The buyer is happy and I am happy - making a bit of money. What is wrong with that?

Hi
Why do Aussie Utes always seem to have a car rear window and surround at the back of the cab?
European ones all seem to be just, cut of square and a flat rear panel inserted.

I would suggest the European pick-ups with flat panels to the cab are mostly later amateur conversions; factory-built pick-ups and professional coachbuilt versions usually have a more rounded shape to the cab.
