Fabulous bit of film; there's another short clip on You Tube of the same event:

For those interested in such things, I have managed to identify the location featured in the BFI film. Chalford is located just to the east of Stroud in Gloucestershire. The first shots of the MGs turning right off a major road is at mr 898024; they're turning off what is now the A419, having just crossed the railway bridge. The turning is visible on Google Street View, but the track itself is presumably a private road which Google didn't investigate further. The trial section itself climbs southwards out of Golden Valley towards Hyde Farm in Minchinhampton. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Hi
The other side of Minchinhampton Common there is a feature known as the Nailsworth Ladder which a few years ago re-opened it's annual hill climb trial.
I haven't found any old film of it, but a Google video search for it comes up with a few videos of the more recent (last 10yrs or so) events.
If you look at the images section of G search there are quite a few old B/W images of the earlier events. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.
