Have you ever heard of this make of car? I certainly hadn't until yesterday. The photos aren't that brilliant (I only had my phone) but never mind that, let's discuss the car.
CGE stands for Compagnie Générale d'électricité, and in 1941, due to fuel shortage, they asked M Gregoire, an engineer, to design and make an electric car. And here it it, discovered by me in a unit not far from me. more on this company and what they are doing anon, but i would mention a Minivan with a 1380cc engine producing 130 bhp for example.
here are a couple of photos of the car, showing the front and badge, the battery space, and the batteries themselves. What amazes me is that in 1942 this car travelled from Paris to Tours, a distance of 140 miles, without recharging.

Hotchkiss made the body in aluminium, it averaged 27mph on its 140 mile run, so no milk float!

It was advertised as having a 56 mile range per charge, at a maximum of 36 M.P.H. |
