Hello all,

Im serious considering buying a 1 owner 1968 sedan.
Im based in London and work long hours, so doing it myself is not likely to happen.
We are planning on moving next year to a place with good garaging.

The car Im considering has always been garaged has a little rust, is in running condition with an MOT.

What Id like to know is the names of restorers who can do a clean up of the body, remove any rust, repaint and rust proof it. The interior, engine and other bits can then be done at a later time, though the engine and interior are in good working order already. I realise interior panels etc may need to come out for a proper paint.

General and specific advise and opinions would be welcomed. Also any ideas on very general ball parks for costing? (eg) £2000 to £5000 etc.

Thanks
Richard

The answer to your Ball Park figure really is from virtually nothing to unlimited. A lot depends on how good you want the finished car to be, and also whether or not spares are easily obtainable. Difficult to obtain spares will cost a proffessional time to locate, and time costs money!

Regarding the statement "little rust." A 38 year old car will not have little rust. If it has a little, that usually turns out to be a lot. If you want to have a perfect job done, then a good pro will first strip the vehicle completely, then media blast it, and then dip it in acid. Only then will all the rust be seen, and only then can the rust be repaired properly.

Otherwise, just get a reasonable job done for now, even if it means using a local garage, run the car till you move, and then get a proper job done later, when you have the garage.

Hope I dont sound too negative! What kind of sedan is it?
