Anyone watch it??

I got up in the early hours for qualifying, but recorded the race and watched it while having brekkie this morning. Somehow quali is much more exciting that the races quite often, although I still have to watch both!! Very Happy

Nice to see Mclaren back on form, and Ferrari still on form after Schuey's departure. I'm also hoping that Williams have a good season and put recent nightmarish years behind them finally

Hi

I saw a little bit of the race when it was on itv this pm, I struggle to watch a full race. I am not a F1 fanatic should I say!

I may sound silly now, but having only watched the start of the race, what was the results?

Cheers

Apart from the odd glimpse, I stopped watching formula 1 a long time ago. Sorry dudes and dudettes, but its so boring! Thank goodness we can all watch some REAL racing this coming weekend - 125, 250 and MotoGP. THAT is exciting! Or could I be biased?

Even NASCAR isn't the same since Dale - but it does have the advantage that the drivers have to rely more on skill than technology!!

I agree the F1 races can be a bit dull - quali is exciting (I think), and the cars simply awesome when you're next to the track and they come howling past, but when there are 22 of them on the track, and watched on TV, the excitement is sometimes a bit lacking.

Bring back manual gearchanges, less aero stuff, and big sticky non-grooved tyres. Oh and free up engine regs, and bin the 2 race engine rule, and traction control ... and having to use both soft and hard compound tyres in a race, regardless of which is the best to be on - too much rule making is stifling it methinks

I cant comment about qualifying, I've never seen it. I take your point about removing technology though. I suppose thats the reason I find NASCAR more interesting - no technology!

I can also take the point about the sounds 'live.' That DOES make a difference. On the other hand, I'm old enough to have heard some of the great bike racing engines, eg the Honda 250-6. That DID howl!

The thing that I like to see though is a fight, watch a 125 bike race for example. Theres probably more overtaking, lead and position changes on one lap - one corner almost - than a formula 1 race. They even swap Sponsors ie paint mid race!

NASCAR doesn't really grab me, although we don't get to see much of it in the UK. The British Touring cars used to be realllllyyy entertaining, and even now isn't too bad, although buzzing little hatchbacks isn't the same as watching RWD Sierra Cosworths on opposite lock, at least there is plenty of close racing.

In F1 I think there needs to be more driver input, and opportunity to fluff things like a gearchange, allowing those behind to get close & have a go at passing.

Hi UJ
I agree that Napcar is still mostly 'old school' when it comes to engines, trans, rear ends, electonics, etc. That part I actually like.
But they do have plenty have of aero tech which is where the problems lies. The cars no longer look "stock" as back in the 60's, 70's and even the early 80's. The aero packages make a lot of downforce but lousy racing. I wish they would get rid of all the spoilers, make the cars more stock appearing, and no restricter plates on the big tracks.
Put the drive in the driver and send the crew chief back to changing tires.
With a few exceptions, most of these young drivers need directions from their crew chiefs and spotters on how to wipe their arse! (did I just say that out loud?) Embarassed
Actually, the popularity of Napcar has more to do with driver personalities and sponsors than racing.

You are correct that when Dale died, the real NASCAR died with him, though it did wake up a few on safety issues.

With F1 and Indy Cars, I wish they would go 'old school' also.
Go back to flat bottom cars with little or no aero wings, no electronics, no traction control except for the drivers foot and real manual shifters. I want to see a driver actually have to lift and brake instead of flat-footing it around an oval. and wouldn't it be great to see 'real 4-wheel drifting' back on the road courses and not this so called power sliding that they now call drifting today. Stirling Moss, KIng of the real Drift!!! Very Happy

Bottom line, put the driver back in control and let driver skill decide the races instead of technology.
I could go on and on but just my 'old school' opinion. Wink

It does look like everyone has the same opinion about this, but express things differently, basically, remove technology!

Stuchamp, as far as the aero packages in NASCAR go, I agree with you as well, although I do remember the aero wars of the late '60's....as I guess you do! I've got a feeling that this last comment means nothing to anyone else!!!

Hi

My personal love in motorsport may sound strange, but I like UK F1 stock cars mainly on shale, full contact, no technology, except a monster engine! I also like autograss racing! From Class one minis right up to fire breathing Class 10's with unlimited engine size and configuration, really fast racing! Wink

Cheers

Dave
