Pilarless=Kool!
Great photo's. The 56 Merc & 53 Ford are rather nice! And the '48 Plymouth is quite tasty too. |

Stuchamp, was the Pontiac a Ventura 389? Its a bit difficult to see on the photo, but it doesnt look like it had the tri-power.
Rest of you: They are called Hardtops, not pillarless!

UJ, not sure of the engine and I think it didn't have tri-power either.
It did have the optional 4-speed with bench seat which I think is a little rare.
Over here we call these "bubble-tops" because of all the glass and thin roof pillars. |

Stuchamo, I've never heard the term bubbletop used over here, but on the other hand I'm not really into Pontiacs....
Did GM really call the triple carb set up Tri-Power? I thought that was Fords term, just as Six Pack is used by Mopar.

GM cars and Ford both used the tri-power term though I usually refer to the Ford setup as "triples".
All GM cars from '60-'62 with that style roof use the slang "bubbletop". |

Giggles, if they had been made in England, I would have called them pillarless....
But they were made in the US, so its the term Hardtop thats correct.....
Just being pedantic....or stupid!
