It goes back to my first Rover P6 that was not a very smart example and she reckoned it was dirty and smelly inside! Got worse when I ran a 1957 Rover P4 that had that lovely "old library" musty feel to it. So she has never even tried the Volvo!
I have probably spoilt her with a new BMW every 6 years or so!
We celebrated 35 years of marriage last week so the concept of having totally separate hobbies does seem to work in our case! |

Took it for it's first run today. Not a chance of being a daily drive. Took me ages to get it started and then could work out the gears!
Is there an option for "it's the driver that's a Classic, the car's simply ancient" |

You will get used to it, you will soon be more confident, and starting will be quicker when you get used to it too! I used to take ages and be very worried about going on the road with my Penny Farthing. Alot of people won't ride them in traffic, but I am quite confident on it now, and quite quick, but have to be careful, as I have no brakes!
Good to hear you are running and that it will soon be legally useable, then you can potter and fiddle with it at your own leisure then, knowing if you want to take it out you can. You seem to have got to an MOT standard quite quickly, perhaps you want to come and help do my truck, as it is taking me a while! hehehe
Anything out of the ordinary gets laughed at, smirks, people stopping and taking photos. Ah, people used to laugh and smirk at me, I wonder if I am abnormal

I have a fuel delivery problem. I can't seem to get enough fuel going in to start with but once it's started adn running it seems OK.
The next problem is sorting out the controls. There is ignition advance/retard hand throttle and choke (mixture) all od which are set differently for starting and restsarting. I'm getting there I must admit.
The car is basically complete and I think I've won a watch because it was sold as a non runner with engine work, gearbox refurb and brake rebuild needed but if the previous owner had done any research he would have foudn that it was fully renovated albeit inaccurately in 1994. Ah well his loss and it gives me space in the budget for more cosmetic work. |

Well I'm still running my 20 yr old Citroen 2cv every day, rain or shine.
It's as reliable as clockwork (and almost as fast) and is returning 45+ mpg in mixed use which can go up to 55+ with care. |

Without entering into a "mine is bigger than yours" contest, the F Type is used most days, including our regular Boxing Day pilgrimage to Glossop. Interesting a couple of years ago, the rear wheel didn't know where it was heading with the snow in the middle of the road! I almost feel envy when the conversation gets around to roofs and heaters, whatever they are for (the motorbike doesn't have them either!)

a roof is for collecting rain water until it can be dumped into your lap and for deflecting the iciest blast of air directly into your face....
a heater is for creating a foggy mist inside the car which will persist intil you reach your destination.... and to keep your free hand occupied twiddling with the controls instead of twiddling with your OH.....
and you never mentioned vacuum wipers.... the purpose behind those IMHO is to increase the traffic at the Emergency Room from accidents! |

Yeah. It's a DHC with a Dolly Sprint engine in it. It needs quite a bit of welding to the floors, but I plan to do work myself so I know the quality, and also to pick up the skills. I'm also not flush with cash, so it's being done as and when (very slowly!). |
