|
|
Every year at this time, I decide what I am going to do to the Amazon over the winter.
In each of the last three years I have done:
1. the interior, full leather replacement from a Volvo S40
2. gearbox rebuild
3. Twin SU's, fancy exhaust system, to get an extra 15 bhp.
This winter I am going to overhaul the suspension so I can enjoy the extra power.
Started this weekend with the replacement of the front suspension bushes with Polypropalene.
But of course while the anti-roll bar was off, I had to give it a lick of paint, so now I will have to do the same to all the other suspension parts because they look so shabby!
Still it is a job I can do a bit at a time and keep the car on the road during the week. |

Rick
I'll bet your old Amazon wasn't as kippered as these:
I recently bought this two door Amazon on ebay for just £50.00.
It had two good doors and a bonnet, as well as loads of those little bits of trim and spares that "you never know when you might need them". It had no front suspension and so was very difficult to move around so I stripped it on the trailer and took the bare shell to a local breakers yard and got £20 for it.
I was astonished to find two early Amazons had just arrived in the yard. They are local cars and must have been standing outside for at least ten years.
I got a few more bits for myself, including a waterproof Webasto sunroof, which with all the frames, hidden strengthening bars, and every nut and bolt was a bit of a bargain at £15.00. All I have to do is to pluck up the courage to cut the hole in the roof of my car!
I posted details on the Volvo owners forum and made three more visits to get bits for other Amazon owners.
Fortunately the yard is owned by a classic car driver who has assured me that the cars will not be crushed for quite sometime to give enthusiasts a chance to pick them clean. |

Amazing how they still turn up isn't it!! I popped in to a local yard a couple of years ago, and amongst all the modern tin was a 121. It'd had a front end biff, but prior to that it must have been a very clean example. I tipped off someone I knew who was looking for parts, whether he went to buy anything I don't know but it had really nice interior trim (black).
My first Amazon cost 50 quid, which I put back on the road after a lot of work, and two spares cars later came for this huge sum too
This was the scrapyard find, some great screen trims on it too:
This was the rally car that I had for a while:
and the last Amazon I had (which I owned twice), a '68 122S:

Sorry Rick - I have to correct you!
Your final pic shows a two door car that is a 131 if it had a single carb or a 132 if it had twin carbs.
The Volvo model numbering system is one of the most confusing ever invented.
First digit : 1 = saloon, 2 = Estate
Second digit: 2 = four doors 3 = two door
Third digit: 1 = Single carb (Stromberg) 2 = Twin carbs (SU's)
I hate being an anorak! |

Here is what Father Christmas bought me for the Amazon - well the Load adjusters came from ebay (£26.00!) the front shocks from a fellow Amazon owner who had never fitted them, and the alternator was in the stock of bits I acquired recently. It is the 65amp version to replace the puny 35 amp currently fitted.
Now the festivities are over I can spend a couple of weekends fitting them. _________________ Brian

Heres an amazon we bought not long ago...its beyond repair (no boot floor..inner rear wings..no rear floor and teh front inner wings have more fibreglass than a Reliant) but it has a new genuine front wing and passengers side door...
we also have an estate...in a state.
Heres the rally car we hope to have ready for spring...
