buzzy suggested to me about a plugin he's seen on another forum, where you have a calendar function that can have events added to it, for everyone to see.

I'll have a look around, and find a plug-in either for the forum, or as an addition to the main site and linked to from here, allowing anyone to post events onto an online calendar. When I've found something I'll let you know, it'd be a more organised way than posting in threads I think
