|
|
Just won an outboard motor on ebay, the seller stipulated Pay-pal, or cash on collection.
As he lives less than two miles away I thought I would draw out the cash and give it to him when I collected it, but then decided that, as I was pushed for time, I would use Pay-pal.
My ebay account now shows "Uncleared" for this amount, and the seller complains that it could take ten days to be cleared.
The amount was just over £500 and I was unaware that a Pay-pal transaction of this sort was not immediate... Did I do something wrong?

I've had not had that paricular problem, but like Rick never had a higher value purchase, could you cancel the transaction and pay him cash?

Many thanks chaps. I possibly had not updated an expired card, but they paid three smaller transactions last week, I would have expected them to send a reminder when the card expired...some cracks are beginning to show in their system.
Seller is ok about it now and we shall let it run its course.

Don
they probably did send you a reminder which if like me you don't read because its one of the 100's of automated mails you get dealing with ebay & Paypal and so gets junked!

Its handy for buying stuff, especially from overseas (again I've only bought low-value stuff so no problems, as yet).
I believe you have to take care when accepting payment via paypal though. The buyer can send you the money via P/P, and you send the goods out in good faith as normal. Then the unscrupulous buyer claims that the goods never arrived, and submits a request to P/P and the £ is refunded to them, so the vendor ends up without goods or £. Watch out for this one!

Just checked my on-line bank account... Paypal withdrew the money from it on Monday. Be interesting to see how long they keep it for before paying the seller.

Just received notification of payment, nine days after the money was drawn from my account.
I wonder what would happen if I took the same amount from my bank for nine days without telling them?
