i don't know the degree of difficulty you fellows encounter obtaining work/storage space but i for one couldn't afford the cost of a ready made building, AND was less than impressed with their construction. i was fortunate to obtain GRATIS a quantity of steel girder channels and set about working up a building frame i could weld together without having to make too many cuts in the steel. i ended up with a box frame app. 8' long, 12' wide, and 8' tall, which i added a plywood floor to and sheathed in corrugated iron. other than a significant amount of labor and welding wire, the total cost for this very strong and secure building only came to $300US. compared to the $4k pricetag on the pressedwood buildings...
only problem? i already have it full. i need ANOTHER.....

Hi

Some pics of your shed, full up would be great!

Has anyone here tried making a building or just their garage period style to fit their car? A sort of working museum garage. Not sure how practical it would be, but interesting!

Cheers, hadn't seen that one before - good stuff! Too bad can't convert my garage to that - for some reason my garage is at the bottom of the garden, at 90 degrees to the house and backs onto a narrow gitty, but can't access it because there's a fence between it and the garage! Used to have a red rusty one of these in there stored for a friend of the family who we lost contact with, but it was dissasembled for scrap a couple of years back

Building a new garage/shed is on our "to do" list. A wooden one will cost us around £2k, but we need to get planning permission even though it will replace one that is already there (our council are a right pain!)

The other idea that the husband has had is to move, but trying to find somewhere larger than with already got with a garage and enough parking for our cars & caravan and still have a good sized garden for the kids to play in and put a tent up in is way beyond us at the moment, not without upping the mortage so much that we can't afford to live and still enough enjoy doing all the things we like.

I managed to obtain planning permission for a 3 car garage at the rear of my house, and have a 30' x 12' garage at the side of the house at the moment. Unfortunately I might be moving again so everything is on hold.
What a bummer

Merry Christmas all Wink

I built my own garage. laid every brick, made the roof trusses from scratch, made all the doors , window frames and tiled it which was a bit hairy as I am no good with heights! I did drag mates & family in to help, my kids and thier friends nailed all the nails into the nail plates on the trusses, which was about 6000 nails in total!

Its a large 4 car garage with good useable space upstairs which is accessed from an outside staircase at the back, which I need to remake as I got the riser & tread ratio wrong, so as Buzzy will confirm it’s a bit tricky coming down especially if you have big feet !!. It also has a pit so was designed very much with restoration in mind.

Since it was built it has very quickly filled up with non automotive stuff! Evil or Very Mad so over the Christmas break I want to have a really good sort out!!

Hi

He he, Yeah I must admit, my size 13 boots did cause a scary feeling coming down them steps.

I wish I had smaller feet, maybe that will come true over xmas! Wink

I must also say Uk's garage is pretty damn smart!

Beautiful! I`d love to have a brick building. I have a decent sized metal garage, but wished I could have afforded to make it more hurricane proof! Great job on those doors, too. Now you need some vintage signs, and an old petrol pump!

hehe I'd only go and fill it with more junk if I increased my garage space, so probably safer not to Smile

I still think ukdave`s garage would look good with a couple signs and an old pump! And, like Rick says....I could fill that loft up in short order, LOL!
