It's great to finally stumble across a forum dedicated to the restoration of classic and vintage cars, even though its based in the UK!

My name is Melissa, I'm from Victoria, Australia and have been an enthusiast of 1970's cars for a couple of years. Which led me to joining a Veteran, Vintage and Classic car club in my local area. From this I've developed a love-affair with all restored cars, but to my suprise I'm the only under 25 year old in the club!

It saddens me to see in Australia, the decline in the amount of under 25 year olds, willing to take up car restoration and I was wondering if you are seeing the same trend in the UK?

I have some good news for you.

I am early 40's but I have three sons 18, 16 & 13 all dedicated to restoring old cars and bikes.
The only problem is that I am always helping them and not getting enough time for my p[rojects.

I hope you'll visit us here often as we're an nice bunch of folks, with wide and varied passions ranging from Penny-Farthing bi-cycles, classic cars, caravans / trailers, motorcycles, trucks and commercial vehicles, in fact generally everything that has wheels - oh yes ...... and the occasional boat.

I for one have been into everything old for a while now, I am 22, and have had a few cars. I am becoming more and more interested in older and older cars every day, I like veterans, edwardians, vintage, classic, steamers, old bikes (penny Farthing/Ordinaries in particular), old tools, anything old really. I know of a few younger people interested in oldies over here in the uk, so there seems to be more people around than I thought there was!

I've loved cars since I was a kid, but had to wait 'til I got into my forties before I could afford the kind of vehicle I wanted. It's nice to meet a female in a mainly male-oriented environment, especially one with such enthusiasm.

You certainly have come to the right place......We like all forms of older transport here.

I bought my 1947 Rover in Sydney in 2003 and shipped it back to the UK and it now is with me here in Scotland.
You have a great country there and the classic cars scene is very strong with some superb early examples of wonderful British Motoring History

I had to become interested in 30s cars when I was a teenager because they were all I could afford to drive, in the 1950s.

Sadly, the cheapness of reliable secondhand cars these days means very few youngsters want the hassel of older stuff. The demise of the engineering apprentice schemes means that fewer of them are smart enough to understand the technology, and/or want to get their hands dirty.

In France, and many other countries, they respect engineers and mechanics: let's hope it's the same in OZ.
