Possibly the most unrelated-to-cars email I've received in quite some time was this one, from Alan, who stumbled across this photo in the Mystery Cars bit on the main site
His question:
-----------
Hi,
This has nothing to do with Classic Cars I'm afraid. It probably appears quite "sad" but I'm trying to locate all the remaining Metropolitan Drinking Fountain & Cattle Trough Association troughs & fountains. Perhaps surprisingly, despite road-widening schemes and other town "improvements" there are still quite a lot remaining in London and the South-East.
Google found a reference to a cattle trough in the text alongside one of the photos on your "Mystery Cars" page i.e. photo number 9 with the text "This is one of a small set of photos I found a while ago. Parked on the left is an unidentified lorry, owned by Ever Ready batteries by the look of it, with a 1930s car - Austin? - parked behind. What I really like about this little photo is the drinking fountain on the right. It says 'Metropolitan Drinking Fountain', 'Cattle Trough Association'. Bet that isn't still there today!"
I don't suppose you have any idea where that photo was taken? Any clues
would be much appreciated."

Bit of a long shot I know, but does anyone in that neck of the wood recognise this high street scene?
