Those that were following the Hot Rod scene during the early 1980's may remember this car. It's a 1963 Humber Super Snipe, but not as you know it......

Built in the style of a gasser or high-rider by Malcom Jay and lay asleep for many years in a lock-up garage across the other side of Ipswich. During the 1980's it was seen at several rod shows and now is sitting on our driveway. Cool

It doesn't run at the moment, but then hubby hasn't had a chance to look at minor details like yet. One thing we have done is to remove 15 years of dust of dirt, as that's how long she'd been in hiding so to speak. The plan is to get it back on the road ready for The Nats at Trinty Park, Ipswich in August.

Anyway, here's a photo's

The man in the back ground is Trevor Gardiner, who built Digger's Express Model T delivery Hot Rod a couple of years ago.

Gasser's seem to be are making a come back on the show & shine fields over the past couple of years, with other famous gassers coming out of hiding.

Love it or hate it, it is rather special and a bit different to our blue Super Snipe. Cool

Wow! That brought back some memories.

Glad to see it's found a good home. Looking forward to the Nats.... Wink

Looking forward to seeing it roadworthy again.

It featured in Street Machine in about October 1984. (I always get the two mags muddled up Smile ) Funny story over the magazine, I'd been bidding on one on the bay and gave up when it reached I think £5 or £6. A few weeks later at this rod show called the Nats I found a copy for 50p! Result Cool I seem to remember someone at the time saying all we'll need to find next is the car.........

The number plate is different now, I guess it was either sold or re-registered over the years.

Aparently, if it's not on the road by August IT WILL be trailed up to the Nats, or so we've been told. Laughing (Oh no, she'll be a trailer queen!)

Oh yes. Mike always said he wanted a V8 Humber, but didn't want to put one in the blue Snipe, although if we hadn't have been able to rebuild the engine in it last year he had considered it.

Wink bump!

Mike has now replaced the missing drivers side window, as it was missing. Good job he did really as it's been blowing a gale down the side of our house and the car would have got very wet inside otherwise.
Our friend Trevor came over on Sunday and had a little go at manually turning the engine over with success, although he didn't want to do too much to it. (hope that makes sense)

Update:

Last weekend we discovered that most of the electrics do work! Very Happy Although it could do with being rewired. Good job he's been practising on the Fairlane. Wink

However the front brakes do need a bit of TLC.

Shame the weather's been so damp this weekend. But that has meant the boys having been playing model railways instead.
