Ok, lamps ...

Before, nasty plastic things

After, much more respectable chrome examples (with covers) from Joseph Lucas..

Much better Rick. Lucas 5 1/4 sealed beams I believe. Are they the F7 LR range?

hmm not sure offhand, and the markings are on the back so now unreadable without removing them Smile I've got some new ones somewhere, will check the numbers. Being sealed beam isn't really very practical, as I bet replacement units cost more than a mere bulb, but they do the job..

While out and about today I spied this lovely old Maudslay coach, parked in front of an equally impressive house. As I was in the A55 I didn't feel too cheeky in popping in to find the owner, and ask if I could take some pics. The owner, a great enthusiast of all things bus-related, couldn't have been more friendly and was happy for me to take some pics.

hehe aye they came out ok - and what should I hear a moment ago, but a Routemaster driving by Smile I've seen it several times in the last couple of weeks, including yesterday, Buzzy mentioned that there are one or two owned locally but I'm not sure why I keep seeing it drive by..

That second pic looks like a period shot, what did you do to get that 'faded polaroid' look?

a little fiddling with Photoshop to give it an aged look Smile

Another pic, with various simple fiddlings applied

Starts off as:

then with a bit of noise added and switched to b&w

or as with the other pic, aged to look like an old slide or print where the colours have gone off a little

and finally a version that has a sepia look to it

You can also do lots of weird things to the photos, but most of the time I just do gentle tweaks like this Smile

If you can't find nice period props in present day then you can always superimpose your present day photos on old scenes. Wink

Yes I fancy having a go at that, eg superimposing the Devon onto a Grand Prix grid for example Smile

Back to the A55, before things kicked off with junior's tum last week, I managed to get a bit of work done on the A55, just routine stuff like greasing the front suspension, plus the rear shackles and generally having a poke around for the first time.

I'd noticed that the steering was a bit heavy whenever a turn to starboard was required. A peer inside the steering box and idler showed both levels were a little low, with both topped up the steering has definitely improved although I still wonder if the box has been over-adjusted a tad at some point, something else to check soon.
