Hmmm, not bad for £3 then!

I think I will get UK's tube to fit, with a reducer, with little issue, will try to get one maybe on friday lunchtime, or at the weekend.

This talk of old footpumps inspired me to start cleaning up some of the old ones I've got hanging up in the garage, not too shiny mind, just clean and presentable. Today I re-discovered a Dunlop Major just like buzzy's which I'd forgotten about, so that can hang up with the Dunlop Junior and Dunlop Standard I cleaned up earlier in the week Embarassed

Perhaps the most unusual one I've got is a tiny little footpump called the Scootaflator (I think thats the spelling), designed for scooter riders in the 50s. Will take a few pics if I think on

You guys are getting all "pumped up" about polishing those tire pumps!
When was the last time you patched a tube? Did one last weekend, took 3 old kits the scuffer from 40's patch, from the 50's, and a cement/glue from the 60's to patch 2k made in china yard cart tube. My boy had only seen the Three Stooges patch a tire with a salami......he was quiet as church mouse. tt

You want to try doing a flotation tyre that is as big as you!

I had to put it in a wheel wash tank to see where the hole was!

I found another pump today, it was red, can't remember the name on the plate, but it was in a box in my garage, must have been my grandads.

re pump conectors.open type dosent rely on valve to open it . closed type does . regards The fly

Yesterday we went to dump some garden cuttings at the tip, and I noticed these two 1960s/70s pumps abandoned next to the scrap metal skip. Needless to say they didn't stay there long. Not mega exciting admittedly, one is an Aerite and the other Desmo, but they both still work perfectly, and still leagues better than most of the junk for sale at H*lfords and the like.

Any pics of the Kismet Lorry pump?? wouldn't mind one or two heavier pumps myself

They look quite nice actually, especially the Aerite pump.

I can't get yoyu pics at the moment as I have mislaid my cable.

I will try to remember to bring them next time I pop over to see you.

Hi Everyone, I'm a new member on the forum and I am interested in restoring vintage car pumps.

I opened and posted this under a new topic 'Braided Hoses' 2 days ago and got some helpful replies - but it occurs to me that its equally relevant here.Brilliant pump pics!

I currently have threeold kismets, three 1920's Britich Goodridges and a number of later Sutty, Aerite, Dunlop and Desmo pumps.

I've been trying for some time to get hold of some original or replica braided rubber hose and some old style ( not Halfords!) quality attachments for both ends. Also leather washers to restore the inner pistons where necessary.

Any advice welcome!

By the way, I'm basically a retired engineer and pump collector! I clean and restore old pumps to full workng order but try and retain the old patina and appearance etc - so I dont repaint them to 'concourse' condition or anything like that. I like to see the evidence of years of faithful service. Is this the general feeling among other 'sympathisers'?

Rick is right, definateley no shiny new paint, just a little oil or dieslel then oil and hey presto. But no over cleaning as a general rule.

Have you any pics of your pumps eddieg?

Just rushing off for a few days and then to the Blenheim show - where I'll be looking for a few more.
When I get back next week on a sunny day I'll line them up on the back wall and take pics - maybe in 'logical groups' because it would be one long line otherwise!

By the way, not put pics up here before - is it easy or are there any instructions?
