Though I doubt it, some of you may have noticed that I've not been posting much lately. Here are some photos of the reason.....

Its a petrol tank in stainless for my Chrysler. New or good used ones are impossible to get hold of, so I decided to practice my welding skills...

Thanks guys. I'll draw mcpartlands attention to this topic.

Its a pity I didnt take any photos during the making of it though. Being a bit nit-picky, I'm not all that pleased with certain aspects of the job though.

Lovely - there's nothing nicer than a neat running weld. Cool

Although I notice there's one pan-head screw not quite lined up!

If you look closely at the 5 screws, you will notice that one is offset slightly. This is because I wont be using the Chrysler sender unit, but an aftermarket one.

As far as the welding goes, the person that taught me to weld many years ago would have told me off for those welds, as they are scruffy. He would have done them much better.... Shocked

Tig welds are always neater than mig anyway...and for petrol tanks, they are the only way to go for technical reasons. So therefore the use of stainless.

Funny thing is, I was told a while ago that Mig was preferable....

Thanks again guys.

The welds dont leak, of that I'm pretty certain, I have checked as best I can...

Greeney, it is a fab-ricated job! Laughing

There is one thing that I wonder about though. Would a car show judge see the workmanship or the fact that it isnt original? Not that the car will ever be shown.

You're being way too hard on yourself UJ, your work is of a high quality as far as I'm concerned.

I trained in Chrysler (Linwood) and our training instructor, Mr Arnell could weld silver paper onto battleship plate he was that good. His stuff was a work of sheer beauty, pity his standards didn't make it out onto the shop floors.

You can weld my Chevy any day (not that it needs it of course, Chevy's don't rust!) Cool
