I also though that it had now just degenerated into a 'cleanest car' competition with judges poking their white-gloved hands into all sorts of unlikely places (of the car not the owners Wink ) to help decide this and not the sort of nonsense some of you have described Sad .

I heard of an incident where "concours" judges couldn't separate two 100 pointer cars and so measured how far up the exhaust pipe the owner had cleaned!
The owner with the longer cotton buds won!

A few of our local shows give each exhibitor a slip of paper and ask them to give the reg number of the car they would most like to take home with them. No prats judging.
Seems to work well.

I'm sorry if this is a bit cynical but does the "would most like to take home"
list not just equate to the car perceived to have the highest sale value?

I would have thought that Peter, but it dosen't seem to work that way. Only classic car owners are voting and the smart ones seem to outnumber the "professional polisher/bought it as an investment" types, the choice always seems to be interesting and sensible. Now, if the public were voting... Shocked

Ah! Renewed faith in human (well car enthusiast animal) nature.

I'm sure that we could all relate similar tales. I was at a show with my Jowett last weekend, when some smartarse insisted to his audience that it was a ford based special. Don't recall Ford making boxer twins! but he seemed happy in his ignorance. I suggest we have some windscreen stickers printed saying "its my car - so I know best!"
