I had a little trip over to Denmark today, to a car museum that I had been told about. I was impressed by everything. The staff, enthusiasts one and all, were helpful, the place spotlessly clean, but more important, a really good selection of cars. At least one or two of these were unique.

One nice thing. They would REALLY like to have visitors from the UK.

Here are some photos:

Before I forget, its called Sommers Automobil Museum, and is located on the outskirts of Copenhagen. So come on guys, put your hands in your pockets, bokk a cheap flight, and visit. You wont be disappointed, and I might even give you a guided tour...

I'm a bit surprised that was the car you picked up on, but it is interesting. It was built in Denmark during the '50's. The chassis is from a 445, lowered and shortened, and the windscreen is an Amazon rear window. During the time it was being built, Volvo presented their plans for the P1800, and the project was shelved.

Now then, what about the other interesting ones? Very Happy

UJ Were you surprised it was Rick and not me that picked on the Volvo?

The yellow tray top is a Jowett - Bradford, I wish mine had looked like that.

There is a photo of the one I owned on this web site.

The third from last (maroon) is a 1946 Volvo PV60.

One that I thought interesting was the SVJ. As well as the Jowett Jupiter....

The D Type is pretty unique, as it is a factory fitted 3.8, has never been seriously damaged, and is therefore quite original.

As was pointed out to me, it wasnt a Jowett Bradford, but a Bradford by Jowett! It says so on the grille!

BrianM, I thought that you would have picked up on the PV60. There was also a Bertone 780 (prototype) on show as well...

Thanks Uncle Joe, I've never seen one of those. I guess, judging by the headlights, that it's not a big car...but it does bear a resemblance to a '39 Chev, just a bit smaller I suppose, cheers, Col.

Kaybee, I have the following information about the Volvo. Sorry its in ''foreign'' measures!

Length: 4.65 metres. Width: 1.82m. weight 1540kg. Motor: 3670cc 90bhp 6 cylinder. Gearbox: 3 speed with optional overdrive.

It was supposedly copied from a 1939 Pontiac.

Hi Uncle Joe,the one that really intrigues me is photo no.5,the white sportscar with it's mouth open.Is this a Volvo based special as well,or something else?.
The first one is also nice, though a bit bulky looking.
Hans.

Heres another photo from the museum that I missed posting:

Poodge: The white sportscar is a engined SVJ from 1967.

I have an almost complete list of exhibits that I can post if anyone is interested. all of the vehicles are on it, but some of the engines are missing.

Fascinating collection thanks. I am especially interested in the Bradford as Left hand drivers are few and far between. I visit Denmark occasionally on business. Where is this establishment?

Its in Naerum, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. As I pointed out, they are really keen to get visitors from England. biggest problem is that they are only open on Sundays, although I think that if there was enough interest, a special tour could be arranged.

Thanks for posting the photos UJ. Do you know anything about the engine that is sitting beside the big 3760cc Volvo? Aircraft / Airship ???

Peter
