It may interest you that there are a couple of the coachbuilding standard books from the 1800's that have been reprinted. There is a lot of information in them that would be of use to you.
Traditionally, Woodies were made from ash frames with mahogony panels. Ash was used because it is possibly the best wood to steam bend, but also because another one of its properties was to be able to flex, an important part of any carriage structure, and for that matter, tools. The resin that you mentioned, which may be specifically for oak, may just stop the ash flexing in the way it was intended. Perhaps Greeney can say more about it?
Woodworm is, as Greeney says, a strange creature. Personally, if there are are any signs of it anywhere, I would not use any of the proprietory treatments, but replace the whole piece of timber. |
