Best not run the engine if you can.

How much petrol did you put in?

The tank will need drained, fuel lines purged and new filters fitted before refilling the tank with diesel.

During the winter if the temperature drops to -15 or below we used to put about 15% petrol into the diesel to stop it freezing in the trucks

petrol into diesel is worse than diesel into petrol as it can do a lot of damage

the older the diesel vehicle the better, petrol into a newish diesel is very bad news

It can be an expensive mistake, I've heard stories of the cost of rectification running up to almost £500 Crying or Very sad

It is not as bad on old cars as I found out!

I refilled by P5 3 Litre petrol with 12 gllons of Asda deisel - it even started and idled!

I did have to drain and dispose of 14 gallons of contaminated diesel though which my local garage took off my hands to use in its oil heater.

No lasting damage - its petrol in diesel that can damage injectors and the pump of modern Euroboxes.

If you have not put much in dilute it with the correct fuel otherwise it is a complete drain off including fuel pump/filter/float chambers.

What car is it?
