I think most of us of a certain age can recall the bobbing 50's Austins so well described by Jim - the front suspension and steering on the contempory Morris was far superior and the cars handled much better. The period trick was gear oil (for a short period anyway) but replacement at frequent intervals the only real answer.
At night you got dazzled as they bobbed up and down coming towards you as well - ah memories!
Back to reality - when the shocks are ineffective the cars were/are just plain dangerous to drive. You can live with it to a degree but when the emergency happens you are in real trouble. _________________ Jonathan Butler
