|
|
I have been looking through the 1938 Morgan Super Sport's manual and it reccomends Castrol XL for the Matchless engine..any ideas what teh modern equivilent would be? I know Castrol offer XL now but in different grades..what grade was XL back in the 30's? I want to do an oil change tomorrow if possible and i know if i contact Castrol they can help but not until Monday. _________________ Rust Junky & oil addict. |

Xl would be a straight 30w grade oil. If I were you I would be tempted to use a 20w-50 _________________ ROVER

20w-50 gives more flexibility with modern fuels which run hotter than 1938 fuels.
My Rover should run on straight SAE30w but I use Penrite 20w-50 _________________ ROVER

If you find somewhere to buy larger volumes, can you let us all know? |

I get 4 x 1 gal Comma 20/50 - in green containers from local motor factors - trade was £20 last time. I use a lot and have been using this since mid 1980's _________________ Rover P2
