Classic lorries, vans and utes in Australia

Photos of restored vehicles plus some junkyard gems!

Thanks to Ian who supplied most of the photographs on this page, following his explorations across Australia hunting down classic iron. Also thanks to David who sent me the main picture shown on this page, and the photo of the rare Vauxhall Velox ute.

Most of the 81 photographs on this page are of unrestored vans, utes and heavy lorries that have long been abandoned in scrapyards across Australia. The climate is kind to steel over there, so most vehicles are simply run into the ground and scrapped, when they become simply too far gone to drive any more. Rot, as we see in the UK, is rarely an issue over there. Paintwork is bleached, rubber and trim often burnt to a crisp, but the main tinwork and chassis components are often saveable, if not bashed to pieces that is whilst in the junkyard!

The keen eyed enthusiast will spot some shiny trucks and pickups amongst this selection - these photos were taken at classic car shows, and are quite a contrast to the unrestored and scrap vehicles that are also on this page. I've always liked to see pics of unloved, unrestored and basically unwanted vehicles, and this selection is great - thanks for sending 'em over Ian!
