Noel Stokoe is no stranger to penning books on the subject of Jowett cars, a marque forever associated with Yorkshire, its birthplace. This book, Jowett - A Century of Memories - complements his earlier works, which include Sporting Jowetts, Jowett - Advertising the Marque, and Jowett 1901 - 1954.

Rather than being another historical look at the firm, describing the various makes and models produced by the factory, this title comes at the subject from another angle. Gathered together are first-hand accounts from people who had a personal involvement with the Jowett factory, or their motor vehicles. Letters acquired over a period of years, following requests placed in a number of national and local periodicals, enabled Stokoe to collate and present a fascinating collection of personal recollections about these classic British cars and light commercials.

This wealth of material, much of which was previously un-published, has been grouped into the following chapters :-
- Memories of ex-Jowett employees
- Memories of ex-Jowett rally drivers
- Memories of pre-war Jowett owners
- Memories of Bradford owners
- Memories of Javelin owners
- Memories of Jupiter owners
Interspersed are many snapshots of Jowetts owned by the contributors to this book, again of great interest for anyone who has an enthusiasm for this car manufacturer. A colour section also features a number of vehicles photographed in more recent times, at classic car shows and runs.

I wish there were books like this relating to cars I own. First-hand accounts of driving these old vehicles "in the day", on the regular commute to work or in the line of business, can tell you a lot more about the cars, foibles and all, than any modern road-test conducted on a sunny day, driving on quiet country lanes in an immaculately-restored, well-tended example. As a book to dip in and out of, even if you're a non-Jowett owner such as myself, this book has a lot going for it.
