Good evening gentlemen.
I want to fit this pump at the rear near the tank, but the fuel line goes into the chassis at a high level.
So to get it below the tank it has to go at the front. I understand these pumps push fuel better than pulling it due to the solenoid pressure being stronger than the return spring.

Is it better to be low sty the front or higher than the fuel level at the back?

Regards
Andrew

Hi

Facet produce different pumps; the answer to your question depends one which on you have.

I think its better to be lower than the fuel level even if it means being at the front of the car regardless of pump flow rate, correct?

I have been looking through this site, as there is quite a section on facet pumps, it may be worth searching for!
From my experience, facet pumps do not pump air, therefore they will either need priming, or mounting lower than the fuel level.

On my Rover P5B I have it mounted low at the front - its been here for over 13 years and works very well apart from its noisy and is louder than the engine at idle outside but you cannot hear inside with the windows closed.

This is not the recommended position which would be at the rear as a pusher rather than a puller but this would be far noisier and would not allow the reserve petrol supply

Thanks, as I thought. Unfortunately I just can't get it at the back due to the pipe going into the chassis where it rises to clear the axle.
Sorry, I am guilty of asking before searching! Its very easy to lazily bark out a question though!

Low down at the front gives some siphonic assistance so the pulling effort is less anyway I suppose

When they fitted Facets to early Range Rovers they were high on the chassis rail above the rear axle.

It all depends which pump you choose - Facet recommend fitting next to the tank within 12 vertical inches of the bottom of the tank, in an upward direction of 45 degrees(short suck/long push). I have one on my Zephyr fitted in this way & it is excellent. It is also fitted on the recommended bobbin mounts & is quiet while a friend of mine fitted his solidly mounted & it is noisy. A Facet pre filter is also a must. You must also check that the delivery pressure is OK for your carb - there are different pressures available from the same type of pump. Hope this is of help, cheers,JD.
