|
|
I am finishing off and preparing for the MOT this Triumph Herald 13/60.
There is a long story associated with trades people letting this owner down. I took pity on his failed project not getting finished ready for the show season, so have decided to help him get this finished and on the road.
Photo`s to follow.

A local business who specialize in all manner of classic car requirements and advertise in all the magazines about how good they are at restoring classic vehicles were tasked with job of sorting out the vehicles rough running, non starting sometimes and were told the car had been stood idle for a long time before it was purchased..
After the car had been in their workshop they presented the owner of the Triumph Herald with a bill for £230.00 to tune the carburettor.
When I went to his house to collect the car as in the photo, it would not start.
Once back at my workshop I soon found the fault.
There were four shiny screws that had been fitted in the dashpot of the carburettor.
A new small piece of linkage .
This was the only items fitted, this was to make the job look good.
What they did not sort out was the fact the fuel pump was absolutely full off sediment from the petrol tank.
The float bowl of the carburettor was full of the same debris and the float valve completely stuck shut.
After cleaning out the fuel pump and stripping the carburettor everything was fine, the engine started.
I fitted an inline fuel filter to stop any dirt getting from the tank into the fuel system.
Just shows these people do not carry out a proper job.
More disasters to follow.!!!

Had the same thing happen to us on the fiat 124 my cousin restored a couple of years ago, the tank had been cleaned and painted, packed and left whilst the resto continued. When everything was refitted and the car started to be driven around it would just stall every few metres and then just restart after a while.
Crap in the petrol pump was found and the obvious culprit was the tank so we emptied it and treated it and its been a few years now without any hiccups whatsoever!! |

They are a pleasure to work on. I used quite happily sit on the wheel whilst I tinkered around.
Good of you to help him out. I would be round the specialist asking for my money back, they don't sound very special at all.
