It seems that at present the LED headlamp bulbs are suitable only for dipping reflector systems, although this is not clearly stated. There's a note on the CDRC site that dipping LEDs will be available from the end of June.
3 amps draw for two 50w headlamps on a 6v system is certainly an attractive proposition compared with 8 amps for two 24/24w tungsten bulbs.

7" replacement round led headlamps are available, that have eu approval:
http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/trucklite-phase-7-led-headlamps.html
They have been designed to better the output of halogen bulbs, as such consumption is some 45watts (actual consumption, not equivalent light output) each on main beam (would =15A a pair if available for 6v, not a practical option !), if they manufactured a lower powered unit, I'm sure it would be far better than the original lamps in our old cars, but it suspect the market is too small to warrant this.
It is a complete, unit swap, so doesn't look original ( probably live with that if one did a lot of night time driving)
It uses mechanical dipping
And they cost about £450 a pair
No 6v version

Really good information on LED headlights, wouldn't the easy option to either;
upgrade to a 12v dynamo, or replace the 6v dynamo with a larger output. I replaced my dynamo with an alternator, I like to see where I am going. _________________ KA

You will need dynamo and regulator changing, ignition coil, flasher unit, all your bulbs, and you will need to either change or have a voltage reducer for instruments, wipers, fan and radio (if fitted). Your starter motor will probably survive providing that you don't work it too hard for too long, but the solenoid would be best replaced. The horn should be okay. Your wiring should be okay if in decent order, but your ignition switch should be treated with a little caution and would benefit from an upgrade, although many don't bother and get away with it.
Probably worth doing if the car is a regular driver. You will notice an immediate improvement in cold weather starting, with much less dependence on state of tune, etc. and night driving will be much easier with more options for headlight upgrades. Accessories such as phone chargers, satnav and modern car stereo set ups become possible, along with easier bulb and electrical component replacement. _________________ 1953 Citroen Traction
