Hi,
I`ve posted this elsewhere but its here to cover all bases.
I`ve a 20/25 Rolls with a damaged flywheel. Would you machine down the old one and get a new ring fitted as they are available or fit a good second hand one. Does anyone know if its possible to balance this or an engine insitu?
Thanks |

Either option should be good.
A good engine shop with dynamic balancing facilities should be able to balance your crank and flywheel.
The stiffness of the main bearings will be too restrictive to balance it in situ.
If you want to diy it you can set the crank and flywheel on a couple of knife edges and let it roll across them to find the heavy spot and drill the flywheel there. Balance the crank on its own first though. You may be able to minimise the drilling by mounting the flywheel with its heavy spot 180 degrees out wrt the crank heavy spot but all this is just static balance, it will be much better done dynamically.
