|
|
Hi Austin owners,
I have bought a "new" project.
This time its a little 850 Super.
Here is the info i had, after I send the cars chassi no to our registrar.
Quot
"My records confirm it as Fiesta yellow. It would have been built very early November 1961 and was the seventh built for export to Sweden.
It is the second earliest Austin Super on my records, and being only a few numbers away from the chassis number of my car,
would have been built in the same batch - sisters!!
Also, It is a Cowley built car, one of the first Austins to be built at the Morris factory".
end of quot.
Here are some pictures of the numbers tagged to the floors.
LH floor =
RH floor
She is rusty, but the vital plates with numbers have survived in ok condition.
Here she is as she looked when just pushed out of the barn/storage.
She is wearing some awesome stickers, one is "stop/ban all distressing cartests - Car front" another say "without the car - Sweden stop,s "
After I got her home we removed the small brass screw in the water pump, and spray lots of WD40 in.
We also removed the spark plugs, and sprayed the cylenders with even more WD40, and then selected 4th gear, and pushed her back & forth a few times.
Here is a link for more info =

Thanks Rick, it was a friend who found her, and let me buy her, as he didnt need another project.
Little did he know, that he would end up with a one owner Pickup before the day was over

These are a "Sweden only" item, fitted to all Mini,s in the 60ies.
I will restore these, and keep them on the car together with the Swedish spec reflexes on the rear overriders.
Also need to find one of them SMITHS rear window demister.

Nice find!
It is a bit more special to find a classic in your own country which has lived there since new.
I once had a 1958 Morris Minor which was delivered new in Sweden. At that time they drove to the left (same as the UK) but cars there had LHD! Always found that strange. Do you know why?

Are you sure they are "Sweden only"? Up to the late sixties cars were required to have mudflaps here (Netherlands) as well.
My A110 still has one flying A mudflap - I'm forever looking for another one.
I've removed the Sunbeam flaps from the Chamois when doing some paint repairs and forgot to put them back , they hang in my garage together with new Hillman ones for the Husky and Triumph flaps. I had these trial fitted to the TR4 but that looked not right. My 2000 Mk1 always has had flaps but not Triumph scripted so I was happy to find these new!

Thanks, just remember I live in Denmark, but its so close to Sweden, so it could be regarded as one, and many years ago, the part of Sweden where we found the Super, belonged to Denmark.
Yes that LHD thing in Sweden was odd never understood that ?

Wont risk my neck on it, but the ones with the big round BMC, have I only seen on Swedish cars (so far) ?

Ohh a 2000 MK 1 nice car. My late Father had a 2.5 PI, also nice.
Good job on finding those Triumph mudflaps (some Collection you have) _________________ http://www.eurods.eu/wp/index.html |

Here is a picture of my cars special factory fitted option = "fresh air heater"
This is controlled by 2 cables, so BMC relocated the choke, to a separat bracket next to the steering columm.

Time to move foreward =
I removed the small brass screw in the water pump, and spray lots of WD40 in.
Then I removed the spark plugs, and sprayed the cylenders with even more WD40, and then selected 4th gear, and pushed her back & forth a few times.
After it had been pushed back & forth in 4th gear, for 8 days,
and sprayed with additional WD40, it was time to get her started
I took with me a liter of fresh fuel, connected a battery, and turned the key.
She turned without problems, so I took the carb apart, to clean it.
Inside I noticed that the jet was in bottom = choke had been on, for many years.
I could not make it move, so another carb was fitted, and after a clean of the points, and a tempoary switch of coil she started.

But it didnt stop there - more to come. _________________ http://www.eurods.eu/wp/index.html |

Hi all,
with the car startet, it was time for the next job = make it fully functionel.
A pleasant surprice met me, when I removed the front brakedrums = these were apparently fixed at some point ?
The same could not be said about the rear brakes, lots of rust & worn out brake shoes, but the bleeding screws came out, without any problems.
These seem to be made of brass ? (or ?) they are Yellow "ish" and had no rust on them, same front & rear.
Also took both master cylenders off, this was not easy, the clevis pin on the brake pedal had rusted solid fun job.
The next day I took all the rubbers to a old school brake parts place, as they sell the rubber seals seperatly.
Armed with all new rubbers (10 Pounds for all) I returned.
Managed to find a couple of Dunlop diagonal tyres, for the correct look.
After a Little clean =
Also got all the lights working now, and its not just old Works cars from Abingdon, that keep secrets behind their plates
Behind my cars current no plate, sat the old original 60ies reg no =
As you can see, did the previus owner notice how Abingdon & other race teams saved weight at the time, so he did the same.
Here is what she looks like now =
Tried to remove some of that Grey/Silver paint, with paint stripper, but thats a hard job, might sand the rest down instead. _________________ http://www.eurods.eu/wp/index.html |

I bet there are many, many more old films that feature a sixties mini in it. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

Yes but that is a super built only for a year approximately and the same model Jens has bought!!
The super is one of the rarest minis because few were built and many were cannibalised in the 80s for coopers and Ss since they have the same interior spec as the more upmarket coopers and Ss! |

Ah.. That's almost marque/make/type anorak stuff...
My wife's first car was a 1979 mini 1100 special. I believe this was a type also only available for a year or two. Black with black vinyl roof and black cloth interior. Chrome grille with inset spot lamps. Although I am not really a mini fan that was a really nice combination. On a holiday in the UK one of the first things we bought at a BL dealer was a RH door mirror to complement the standard LH one. Quite useful to have when driving in the UK! During the two week holiday, apart from all the camping gear, the interior was fitted to the brim with parts for my Sunbeam Imp. Those were not available anymore in the Netherlands (it was 1985) so I had a couple of new bumpers and even a front wing in the car! I also visited many scrapyards and was pleased to see many 50s and 60s cars. Still have a couple of emblems! _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |
