|
|
Hi All
I'm trying to source the original GPO specification door locks as would have been fitted to my Morris Z van.
I'm not sure if they are unique to the GPO? but are quite odd. The outside would have a carriage handle like these, and I have a pair of the handles:
The key to lock is nothing more than a piece of 3/8" tubing with a slot cut in the end it does through the hole to the side of the carriage handle spindle; its a simple budget type lock that looking at the pic below, operates a separate catch (look at the lock on the LHS, the catch is visible towards the ground)
I don't have any of the locks, just this picture:
If anyone has some locks that they would be willing to sell fantastic or if anyone has one that I could borrow for a weekend to look at more closely, it shouldn't be too difficult to fabricate something as locks minus the locking bit are available new, and I could modify them.
If you are not a forum member I can be contacted on davelawton100"at"msn.com
cheers

Dave, the locks are similar to the locks fitted to my Jowett Bradford. I have spares if they could help you fabricate something. |

Hi Paul
If you have it would be really useful the main difference to similar locks is the "flag" and internal catch circled in red, if your have this, it would help me understand how they operate.
Thanks

The near side one on the Bradford has a similar device. I suspect that its internal workings are the same. It is a while since I had one apart, but you are welcome to borrow/dismantle etc one if you wish. |

Dave: Do you have this link ?

Government specifications were not uncommon. UK Coast Guard houses and structures had custom design for mundane things like doors, door hinges, and locks. |

Hi Dave,
Have taken a couple of photos of my Series 3 Land Rover door locks for you:
Passenger door, which you push and twist the knob to lock:
Rear Door
I think that the fixing bolts measure the same between centres,
75mm approx horizontally and 110mm approx vertically although
these are very rough measurements as access was difficult as it was parked in my garage. If you want more accurate info just shout.

Thanks for the pics Steve, the Land Rover casings are just about the right size, I suspect the locking arrangement would be different, but would save me fabrication new cases.
Paul
Thanks for the offer, how do you lock the Bradford externally, is its with a budget type key? or can't you lock it externaly on the passenger side? does the lock slide a separate bolt?
Cheers

Dave,
While looking for new doors for my Land Rover, I noticed that this seller has repro door locks.
By all accounts this seller comes highly recommended in the Land Rover world too....
I have yet to dip my toe in tho

Dave, you cannot lock the Bradford NS door from the outside, neither can you slam the door shut once locked. The snick has to be locked from the inside once the door is closed.
