Best weather this year by a very long chalk
The "new" Fiat is about 200 miles away even though it's still in Scotland. I can hire a trailer quite cheaply or even a van, but I'm not used to tying down vehicles and it is quite a trek to do in a day.
Co-incidentally I am going down to Preston at the weekend so I could pick it up on the way back but would need a trailer for four days' hire or buy one. So economically, having it brought to me makes sense. I used Shiply as I did last time.

I really am not pinning my hopes on this one to be within my capacity to restore although losing my prewar car wil give me plenty of cash. Problem is, money can't buy you time
I am proud to update that Murphio has taken me all the way the 370 miles to Preston in Lancashire for my mum's big birthday party. I can't post the photo just yet, of us having a rest by the English border sign. We went through Gretna without a hitch;)
The car never gave a jitter, we did about 70 miles of it by motorway. Nearly caused half a dozen rubberkneck and overtaking accidents. Used about a tank and three quarters of petrol.
Where next? Maybe up to Lanarkshire on the way back to see the "new" brother...Mitchio. |

Could you consider farming the shell out for restoration? That would get you quite a bit of time and allow you to concentrate on the mechanicals etc?

I hope you don't have limited mileage insurance that's all I can say, you must have clocked about 1500 miles in the last month? |

You will be quite close with that mileage Tony.
My insurance cover has been coupled with my other classic and therefore ends in May. By then I may have used up the 3500 miles. I am planning to get separate, unlimited mileage cover...I need it!

I have started a thread on the Fiat Forum where I think I will continue with the travelogue that this has turned out to be.
So to find future updates please travel to here.......

It really was a rusty pile of bits and I would have thrown most of it away. Fortunately I now have a significant amount of new and old spares, including engines so let this one go.
Possibly the most valuable item was the chassis plate and the piece of bulkhead with that number embossed in |

I'm now into the fifth year of driving my Fiat 500 and we've cnow covered more than 31,000 miles together.
Recently I took up the offer of letting Murph appear as the star of a short video promotion driving over the Bealach na Ba in north-west Scotland.
