These are lovely cars.
I worked in a BMC distributors when these were current. We had a demonstrator and it was my favourite drive. Perhaps only just ahead of the 4 litre Princess R.
I thought the ride and handling were a wonderful match for the level of luxury of the car. I also liked the auto transmission selector on the dash.
Please look after this beauty. |

My first ever new car was 1966 Austin 1800. I fell it was let down by giving it such a low ratio final drive. From memory I think it only did 15mph/1000 rpm so that doing 75 the engine was spinning at 5000rpm a year later they brought out a higher ratio but it was still way to low. I modified it to stage 3 MGB spec. and I could out drag Corvettes for the first 50 feet It was a great long distance car. I liked it a lot.

Diff ratio was changed for '67-on cars and the wheel size increased to 14". Still undergeared...
Why's it got over-riders? Never fitted to the Six.
Check for rust in every conceivable place - they really do know how to rot.
Enjoy - it's a lovely ride and drive.

I had an 1800s and loved it, they handle like a big mini. I would have an automatic 1800/2200 again if I could find a good one that had all the bits I want, i.e. not that saggy baggy draylon upholstery and the mk3 central handbrake. |

I had a 1972 one in 1977 absolute wicked car.the comfort and handling was exceptional.would love another...... borrowed mine to a mate who failed to take a right hand bend and ploughed into a brick wall at 55mph.i lost my car and he gained a scar.... |
