|
|
Afternoon all,
As mentioned, we spent the weekend down at this year's Revival meeting at Goodwood, the first we've been to since 2006.
Photos don't do the scale and variety of the event justice, but here are a bunch that I took, as a flavour of the goings-on. Some were taken on the set-up and break-down days (ie Thursday prior to the event, and Monday the day after), while the remainder were taken on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Here goes, in no particular order ....

WOW! Obviously the Fiat 500 Giardiniera is my favourite, but what a variety of transportation! |

Thank you so much Rick for bringing us the flavour of the world's most prestigious classic car event. I watched it all on Motors TV.
Lovely photos of "the bread van". But I don't mean the Ferrari, I mean the Lumsden/Sargent lightweight E-type, which is now owned by Warburton's bread. And I hope Nigel Webb was there to see his D-type race in anger; he's been laid low with a badly broken leg (twice) for quite some time. |

Hi
there is an interesting item there which relates to the discussion about modding later cars to represent earlier ones or specials

Excellent photos Rick!
I really loved the ERA supported on a £20 trolley jack and also the Peugeot rotary bike.

I'd been glued to the TV over the weekend watching the most exciting racing I've seen in years but the coverage missed most of the interesting non-racing vehicles which you've more than made up for Rick - thanks for a great set of photos. _________________ David

One thing that struck me, was just how many old vans have found new lives as catering vehicles. I've never seen so many Citroen H vans, and ice cream vans based on the Morris PV for example, in one place before.
Last time we attended, in 2006, there wasn't a great deal bar the pre-66 car park, going on in the fields across the road from the main entrance. Now that area is an event of its own.

As you say, great to see this many old vans. Lovely Standard Atlas pickup. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

A recent PR gives a heads-up on Goodwood-related TV coming up, the Revival highlights are being shown this evening (Tues):
------------------------------
GOODWOOD REVIVAL HIGHLIGHTS SET FOR ITV IN SEPTEMBER
The Goodwood Revival Meeting will appear on television four times in September on the ITV network as part of a quartet of high-octane shows that will showcase the very best of motoring at Goodwood.
The hour-long programme, which has been produced by Aurora Media, will bring the very best of the action from this year’s 18th running of the Revival to the small screen.
Three-time Indy 500 winner and four-time IndyCar Series Champion Dario Franchitti and FIA Formula E pit reporter and Goodwood regular Nicki Shields will host the highlights show, which will feature the very best moments from the world’s largest historic motor racing and vintage culture event.
The show will be broadcast on ITV4 on Tuesday, 22 September at 2100 and will be repeated on the same channel at 1040 on Saturday, 26 September and on Sunday, 27 September at 1930. ITV’s main channel will screen the show on Wednesday, 30 September at 0020.
The featured races will be the star-studded opening part of the St Mary’s Trophy presented by Cazenove Capital Management – acknowledged as possibly the most exciting race ever witnessed at Goodwood – the RAC TT Celebration race for 1960s GT cars and the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy for 500cc GP bikes of the 1960s.
Franchitti gives you a drivers-eye view as he drives his hero Jim Clark’s Lotus 25 alongside Sir Jackie Stewart in a very special track demonstration and, chats to Shelby Daytona Coupe designer Peter Brock on the 50th anniversary of his creation’s World Sportscar title and meets ex-McLaren team manager Alastair Caldwell as part of Goodwood’s celebration of the life of Bruce McLaren.
Shields takes part in a mammoth parade of pre-1966 Land Rovers, takes in the atmosphere of the Revival with a trip to the 1960s Tesco on Revival High Street and joins John Sergeant as he runs the rule over the Spitfires and Hurricanes in the Freddie March Spirit of Aviation exhibition.
Three further shows will also be broadcast. Goodwood: Cars of the Future is a two-part programme with part one focusing on racing cars at 2100 on Monday 21 September and repeated at 0940 on Saturday, 26 September and 1830 on Sunday, 27 September and part two featuring road machinery at 2100 on Monday 28 September and repeated at 0100 on Friday, 2 October, 1310 on Saturday, 3 October and 1900 on Sunday, 4 October.
One final programme, Goodwood: Classic Cars will air on Tuesday, 29 September at 2100 and repeated on Thursday, 1 October at 0055, on Saturday, 3 October at 1410 and on Sunday, 4 October at 2000. _________________ Rick - Admin
