Hi Guys,
My first post here, and I'm fishing for info!
I own a Wickham trolley which has a J.A.P. 1323 cc DTZ engine, which is in running order, but I need to source a Woodruff key for the timing sprocket, which drives the mag.
I can buy a key if I know what size it is, but measuring it is a problem as the machine is over a hundred miles from me!
Anyone know the size?
And a slow running jet for the Solex carb. We have the type which faces forward, between the heads, with a bell covering the choke.
I don't know the model type of our carb. It only says Solex on the casting.
I'd also like to find a manual for the engine and mag and Solex carb if they exist.
Many thanks in advance.

I can't help with the carby, or information, but if you have on site with the engine, a vice and file, it would only take a few minutes to shape a key to fit from a small piece or offcut of scrap steel. I have never in my life bought a woodruff key! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Try the Morgan Threewheeler Club, they have excellent JAP knowledge, and may be able to help. _________________ KA

Thing with the term "Woodruff" key is it frequently used generically
http://www.thecartech.com/subjects/machine_elements_design/keys_and_Splines.htm
Some are easier than others to manufacturer "on site", but as said, a few pieces of mild steel, a good vice, measuring device and files, plus some emery paper, wrapped around a coarse file will give the key an accurate finish.
A photo with tape measure or ruler placed in the right positions would give a "ball park" size. |
