Morning all,

The only downside to smart signwriting on a preserved lorry, is that the next owner might not share the current owner's enthusiasm for promoting so-and-so while driving around. Therefore anyone tempted by this cracking 1931 Morris, while a lovely old vehicle for a leisurely potter about in, will probably have to factor in the cost of a re-paint - unless the lettering is for the vehicle's original operator, in which case it doesn't matter.

Hi
I know line shaft workshops used flat belts from the days of water power through to now and motor vehicles have used them for a few years now.
BUT I hadn't realised that some motor vehicles used them before the war.

There is always quite a debate about signwriting an old truck. One of my bugbears is when a lovely old lorry has a modern companies logo / signwriting. It doesn't look authentic and to me lessons the vehicles appeal.

Penman, very many vehicles used flat belts for the fan, and sometimes fan/waterpump. It was a simple and low-cost solution to how to spin the fan, right from the earliest days of motoring. The Ford Model T maintained that arrangement throughout its life from 1908 to 1927. The flat belt was unable to drive a generator successfully, so some 'flat belt' engines had gear driven generators.
