Fitted electronic ignition to my 10hp sidevalve and found the distributor cannot be turned to set the ignition timing. Clamp turns but dizzy is solid. Sprayed with liquid spanner but no go. Will continue to soak it the next few days. Looks like I may need to remove the carb to get at it. Anyone had this problem and can advise. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Paul,
You don't have access to a big Stinson type pipe wrench do you? You could grab the distributor body down low with that and lever it around.

Maybe try a bit of heat on the head. Ideally oxy-acetylene but propane might work.

Paul,
From memory the case is cast iron and down at the bottom where the sides end should be strong enough. I don't think it would take much to move and if it does DESIST.

As I said will spray it with release oil a few times and try to move it. If not will leave well alone until I have the engine out and head off. Don't fancy oxy-acetylene on it while it's in the car and fixed to the block. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Hi.the head is simple to remove without removing the engine. [just buy a new gasket]....it's only a lid, after all.... |

I've got enough to do with body repairs and want to keep it in running order for the summer. It's running fine as is. _________________ 1957 ford popular |
