|

All my life I have thought motorcycles where dangerous things...having no interest in them what so ever.
Then at the age of 63 I decide I want to buy a BSA Bantam the old British 2 stroke bike from the 50/60/70s...I still dont understand where the interest came from.
The one I bought 2 years ago was made in 1969 and reg 1970.
I love it two bits...where ever I go on it...within minutes somebody stops and want to chat about the Bantam.
When I bought it I though just the CBT would get me going as I have no bike licence....class one HGV and car licence but no bike licence.
So I had to do a full motor cycle licence course and tests...quite traumatising in my 60s but well worth the effort.
When I retire next year I would like another BSA to keep the Bantam company...maybe a B40.
I wonder if we have any other Bantam owner on here.

Better go carefull here, quite a few times I have been out on an old bike and got offered another one.
I have ended up buying six bikes all due to going out for a ride, only two weeks ago I was out on a Berini cyclemotor and got offered another cyclemotor
A couple of years ago I went out on my Bantam to look at a house and came back with a 1958 BSA C12.
The hardest old bike to buy is the first, then they just keep turning up. |

Restored this a few years back, early 60s b40
Bloody awful bike to ride.
If I was after a lovely lightweight bike to ride a lot it would be an early Honda cg125. Cheap as chips and given decent servicing - oil, plug, filter and chain lube, it will not let you down.
If money is available, treat yourself to a norton mk2a commando.

Hi DM and Kevin.
Good to see other Bantam owners on here.
DM what Bantam have you.
Kevin thats a fantastic looking C40...I would be thrilled to have one like that...sorry to hear you dont rate it ride wise.
Looks like you made a real nice job of it.
What is it about the ride you dont like.
Think the Norton will be out of my price range...like the Bonnie...love one buy again to pricey now. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbBlfYO46mI

It was too small and underpowered.
Go try a Honda cg125, you will be amazed.

No doubt the Honda is a very practical machine Kevin.
But I'm afraid it would leave me cold.
It has to be old and a Brit to float my boat...doesn't even need to be fast. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbBlfYO46mI

A 67...nice...do you get to use it much.
The big end has gone on mine...waiting for parts off Rex.
Is it a 4 speed. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbBlfYO46mI

Not used it for a couple of years, using some of the others at the moment.
It is a 3 speed but I do have a 4 speed engine to assemble and put in it when I get time.
All the bits are to hand, rebored and a crank thar Rex rebuilt for me too long ago.
Some of my bikes including the Bantam -

Nice collection...what are the bike either side of your D7.
We have a group not far from me who ride bikes like moped and the motorised bicycle called Wirral Wobblers...part of the NACC...are you a member?
They where featured on our local TV a few moths ago. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbBlfYO46mI

To the left is a 1952 16MS A.J.S, and the one one on the right started off as a 1961 Greeves Hawkstone but now has a Triumph 3TA engine fitted.
Used to be a member of the NACC but dont know anyone else round here that rides old cyclemotors or mopeds.
So now I just use / abuse mine and entertain the locals and holidymakers. |
