no worries about a heater motor in a 103E Pop Smile (at least in a standard spec one!!)

have got an old heater for a Ford, it fits in the top hose and wafts heat vaguely towards the cabin, can't imagine that its very effective

I used to have that type in the Austin 12 many years ago. It was connected to a round heater matrix that had two doors on it, and mounted immediately in front of the gear lever. It was a lot more effective than you would believe! Laughing

I use this firm for batteries, if you do stick to 6V they can make you up a battery with a much higher capacity than the original, which will get you round your 6V problems.

http://www.shepherdbatteries.co.uk/

A common fault on 6V cars is that at some stage the battery / stater cable have been replace with cable designed for 12V systems , the 6V stuff is much thicker. A related fault is that the battery clamps will have been changed for modern ones, because the 6V cable is thicker it wont fit in the new clamps, so it gets trimmed down! net effect then is the same as having 12v cable. If you got to Halfords to buy a battery clamp you won't find any sutible for 6v.

I think I'm in the minority here! Very Happy but am a electrical/ electronics engineer. I would only convert my 6V cars to 12V if I did a lot of night driving, there is no reson why a 6v sytems if maintained correctly should not be both reliable and provide ample starting current.

Any car with 6V electrics has survived 50 years, why change it now?

Hi

If you are the minority, I am in it too! I am a little bit of a stickler for originality, so in my oppion stick with 6V.

Cheers

I agree with the Daves, not so much for originality (although that is important), but simply because the system worked ok in the day, so if everything is in good order, it should still work fine now. If the car is a daily user then there is an argument to do everything possible to make sure it starts, but for an occasional-use vehicle, I wouldn't bother. My Ford pickup always started first turn on 6v, and that lived outside in all weathers.
