Hi all,

With car meetings few and far between at this time of year, in the UK at least, do you have any specific work plans to undertake on your car during the "off" season? Assuming of course that you have an "off" season at all ...

[a] wake up every morning?

I frightened myself the other night, made a series of lists of 'jobs-to-do'.....on the Dellow [nothing serious, just jobs I had identified]..the Mustang [not really serious, just jobs I'd identified]..the Fiat 126 [loadsawelding].....and the Ford gearboxes [3 of them, to sort, take the wear out, etc.....] an engine to tear into, and another to put together.....start each of the runners....every week....drive them when weather is reasonable....[Dellow in the ice??]....
then there's the bits for an Ashley special....and my Cannon needs and engine & gearbox of some sort......plus, there's a Skoda in a field, which needs removing and stripping..when I can be bothered?
Then my chum needs help on his projects too.....as we get older, lifting heavy lumps needs a good deal more forethought....cannot just wade-in like we used to.
If only I could just...get...off...this..computer....?? Sad I Don't often 'do' car meetings anyway...

I'm finishing up some shields to fit between the bulkhead and footwell on the hatch, to keep the road muck out of there. There are factory ones, but they're a very tight fit and pretty much guaranteed to scrape a bit of paint off during fitting, so then you have Schrodingers bare metal behind the shield. The ones I'm making are two-piece and can be removed for checking more easily, and once they're fitted, I'm going to make another set for the Firenza. I also have a replacement heater matrix to go in that, which will hopefully stop the windows steaming up whenever the demister is used.

Took the 47 Minx off the road last year as the throttle kept sticking and the speedo stopped working (it was never good in the first place!!).
A strip down and investigate in the dry of the garage awaits.

Brake jobs! Not looking forward to them as I hate bleeding brakes.
Overhaul the brake master cylinder for the TR4, it leaks.
Fit a new brake line to the 420, front to the rear axle.
Should properly repair the rust spots on the 420 and the Chamois. They are not big but a bit fiddly to weld.

You forgot to tell what your plans are Rick? Very Happy

Plans? I wish I was that organised.

Now it's in the garage, I've got the A40 up in the air, and have inspected the underside to see if the rust has extended further than what was there about 15 years ago, when I last had a proper look.

Fortunately, it doesn't look any worse than what I knew about already - ie mainly around the lower edges of the back wings, the sills show a few signs of rust (they were replaced prior to us taking ownership of the car, c1987, but need doing properly), and the front wings, which I now have replacements for.

The floors, spring hangers, boot floor etc have never been welded and still look ok, but obviously there will be things that turn up that I hadn't planned on, once I start digging properly.

This one has lain dormant for a few years:
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7917

But I suspect it will have its metal bashing and spraying completed in the new year and I'll get roped in to rewire it and make and fit a head lining to it.

2017 went pretty well for us. The Zodiac MKII was restored and shown a few times.

The Chevy breakdown truck, a previously stalled restoration, got completed although there's a list of jobs for when it comes out of hibernation in its portable garage/tent.

We've made an early start on out 2018 resto..... Ford F350 which is going to be 'dressed' as a missile carrier from '501st Tactical Missile Unit - Greenham Common.' Engine out and away for machining, front end panels off and in the workshop for repair as individual pieces, ready for a rebuild in the spring. Has to be done outdoors because of the size of the thing!

I promise, really promise, to get my 'round tuit' BMW 2002 project at least driving by the summer.

Finally....... I promise to improve my IT skills to the point that I can post some pictures on here!

Sort out the roof on my ford pop as it looks like it's covered in bitumen. Replace the glass fibre rear wing with a steel one I bought. When it's warmer, fit the twin carbs and aquaplane manifolds. Before that, do the king pins. I don't do the tyre kicking season, just drive my car as often as I can, even in winter if I'm not doing anything to it.
