These photos and nuggets of info came over recently, does anyone recognise this car and/or its coachwork??

----

"I found your website today and I'm hoping you may find these pictures of
interest. I have found this vehicle in a garage near where I live in
Australia. It appears as though nobody (after some exhaustive research) has
any idea what it is. The owner died a few months ago and the car is for
sale. The car is registered as an Allard but Allard themselves do not
recognise the car. The engine is a Ford SV V8 and the mechanicals are Ford
also. The car is dated as 1947 but she has coilover suspension and a De Dion
rear end. Do you know what it might be?"

I'm wondering if it's a kit car?

I'll go along with the special theory. I couldn''t see Sidney Allard spending good money on a rhd dash when so many of his cars were sold abroad Wink
Also, those road wheels with a De Dion axle don't seem right, the door trim and some of the details seem crude, the aeroscreens seem an afterthought (you can see the holes where the original screen has been removed) and as for the steering wheel Shocked
As for make, no idea, but perhaps there are some clues there for the budding armchair detective Smile

It looks like it could be made of fibreglass - is this the case, do we know?

If it is, then it's probably a kit of some kind.

It doesn't look like any Allard I've ever seen.
The body has several XK120 cues,so I too lean towards a "special"
The grille in particular looks familiar, but I believe it has been turned upside down! All the same, with V8 power it should provide some exciting motoring Very Happy

typical of a lot of these forum pics all gone most likely this car was a western Australia home built special called the Smith Special. Sold at auction nov 2017 for $100,000

I noticed that the images aren't showing in post 1 (this was first posted ten years ago mind), the folder for the images is there (with files in it), but curiously the files being called are no longer there. Maybe I removed them for some reason, I can't imagine why I would. There are image files in there that are older, and newer, than those being requested in the original post. Ah well, one of life's mysteries!
