My first reaction to the photo was "VW!".
Early Beetles had just such a wheel. A common accessory was a flat metal pedal hinged to the floor & resting on the wheel. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

fitted some old style holiday sticker's,
fitted my new old style steering wheel,
mounted one front seat, still have to paint the mount's,
replaced the window seal's, that was a right mess on, still have the other door to do,
mounted the imitation ford 1930's rear light's, still have to blank off the original pop mounting hole's,
bought an old door knod to use as a gear leaver knob, i'll have to stain it to match the steering wheel though,

well good new's and bad new's,
good new's is managed to get the SU carb's balanced and running right, they're quite finiky to set up, for me anyway,
bad new's is there's a hairline crack in the engine block (pic) the water isnt running out more of a weep, the clutch is slipping like a goodun, and the steering box is very worn, very nerveracking drive,
so what to do, to sort out these problem's is going to cost a few quid, and quite a bit of work, so i'll have to have a think, bugger,

1 and a half inches either side of centre measured at the steering wheel rim is considered acceptable, don't be fooled into comparing it with modern cars or with rack and pinion steering, the best steering box conversion is to use a modified VW box and column as used by the MG boys. _________________ old tourer

If there is any end float in the column that can cause lost motion. Look at the top of the column from the side and if your steering wheel moves in or out when you rotate it then that's fixable.

mine's a bit more than 1 1/2", yes i'm not comparing it with a modern car, i'm not un-nerved by most driving scenario's having ridden a motorcycle for over 45 year's, but this thing is leathal,
the VW box mod sound's interesting, do you have any more information on it please, _________________ 1957 - 103e - popular, |

There are others but this is the first I came across, http://www.mg-parts.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=82
When I said one and a half inches either side of centre that is three inches in total. My Morris 8 has about an inch either side and that is on a refurbished box, if the tracking and camber angles are correct then it shouldn't be a problem as the car should centre to a straight line with little wander, also make sure there is no lost motion in the drop links and track rod bushes. Still I suppose they didn't call them puddle jumpers for nothing! _________________ old tourer
