The speedo on the Armstrong has suddenly gone bonkers. Sounds like the magnet is touching the needle backplate or whatever it's called...I'm ahppy to take it out and have a look, but even if I get it apart I'll presumably reveal a broken or worn part...so what's next...where does one go for parts for these things?
For the record, it says '1080' on the front..which also seems to be the number on a Jag420 speedo which has a different max speed, so I'm not sure useful the code is?
There must be a Smiths guru out there somewhere? _________________ '60 Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire

TT,
By bonkers do you mean that the needle is oscillating wildly? This can be caused by the speedo cable needing cleaned and re-lubricated. Disconnect from the speedo and pull the cable into the car. Try that first before opening the speedo up.

Sounds like cable windup - part gets stuck briefly the releases sharply then sticks again. The number on the face is commonly revs/mile, for calibration purposes.
