I dread to think how much all those suspension components cost him - they were all brand new.

Although he had to "adapt" the chassis to make everything fit, the chassis is still salvageable and should be of use to someone once everything I need has been removed but I think it's going to be a "grey" area.

Part of the chassis number is still visible or at least the first four numbers are.The remainder are hidden behind a welded plate where the front parabolic springs are mounted.

What would you all do?
Cut it up and weigh it in or sell on?
Your advice would be appreciated everybody.

If I were in your shoes I think I'd only sell it on if there was no paperwork linking it back to me - if there was I'd likely weigh it in. The red tape is a nightmare these days and the goalposts keep moving, who knows what might come back to bite you one day?

Thank you Bitumen Boy.

Yes, you are right. There is no paperwork with the chassis but I was talking this morning with another old Land Rover enthusiast and he suggested that the remaining numbers be ground out thus rendering it unidentifiable.

I would not in all conscience sell it on to anybody but a 1952 Series One 80" inch repairable chassis is not found easily and if someone locally can make use of it then I could "gift" it on the understanding that it's origin is not known.

The idea of cutting it up and weighing it in as scrap is more appealing to me.

Any other suggestions please?

I think you're right as well Peter.

What's bothering me is that someone might use it to recreate a 1952 Series One 80" from bits of other 80" models and now that there's no requirement for an MOT there could be an accident, injuries or worse with the recreated vehicle in the future and the trail would lead back to me one way or another.

I do have a big circular disc cutter among my armoury and I'll use it on the chassis.

Decision made.
Thank you gentlemen.

A final note on this thread, the 1952 Series One 80" chassis which we discussed above was reduced to "chunk size" pieces with a plasma cutter last week and taken in a trailer to the local metal recyclers.

It's probably now on it's way to the Far East for smelting and my conscience is clear. It can never now be recreated as a vehicle.
