Hi All,
Not a new topic really, more of a request. A few years ago, someone on the Forum very kindly sent me an Excel file of all the vehicle registration numbers issued from about 1903 to 197?, and the issue from/to dates. I can't remember who it was, but owing to a laptop crash & burn I've lost the file. Does anyone have a copy they could send me?
Rick - there's a DTT missing (I think) from the late '50s on the website version.
Apols if this post is in the wrong place!
Cheers

DTT was issued by Devon County Council in 1937, when the letters preceded the numbers, but was never issued in reverse form. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Interesting. I'm off to look at a couple of vehicles at the weekend, both late '50s. One is good nick and a runner, the other a donor car which was rescued from a scrapyard many years ago. It still has it's rear plate - 95 DTT.
Thanks for your replies, I'll take a look at the websites suggested but if anyone finds that excel file I would really appreciate a copy.

Bingo! Thanks to all for your contributions, it was indeed Brian M who had the file back in 2009, and Phil is very kindly going to forward me a copy.
Well remembered Rick and D4B |

My Grandfather owned a small village car breakers, he had a very small chit book with all registration numbers in it. I managed to rescue it after he passed away. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I have got a Measham's Guide to Registrations and some Glass's books covering registrations dates from 1904 to 1989 here.
Have also got Glass's check books -
Cars 1933 to 1989
Commercial 1933 to 1988
Motorcycle 1950 to 1984
So may be able to help forum members if they can't get dating info elsewhere (Vehicles Only) . (Not all makes covered in the books).
I am still looking for a pre 1950 Motorcycle check book. |

I still have the excel files, but Rick created a very effective search mechanism for the data and put it on the main section of OCC under "registrations."
I use his for finding dates as it is so much quicker than going through my excel version. _________________ Brian

In my first ever job at 16 I worked in Service/filling station in Fareham, fuelling customers cars. They had a book of all reg. No. Issues which I was glued to in bored moments, of which there were many. Mind you, I've always been a bit of an Anorak about this as some people are with train numbers.
Still a bit of a Q mark over 95 DTT as it doesn't appear in Brian's excel file either. Perhaps some issues slipped the net - does anyone with a book record this series? It's a late 50s wreck of a Commer Cob. |

Noel Woodall's Car Numbers, 1969 edition, shows xxx DTT as a Devon registration in 1959.
I suppose it's possible that it was a commercial-only number.
I would not be able to get my own number MVP 1 (my initials) as it was issued to Dunlop for a series of MVP... vans. Generally one can't transfer m'bike or commercial plates to a car - though I know there are exceptions.
(I can tell you part of the PAM 1 story if you wish).
Vaguely related - is there now some UK rule that requires square plates on the front of some cars? They are usually off-center & look really ugly! _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

According to Glass's Index of Registration Numbers book 1952 - 1962
xxxDTT numbers were issued between Nov 59 - Dec 59, a block of numbers from 895 - 917 were issued to public service vehicles . |
