Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me identify a car. I'm afraid the photograph doesn't show all of the vehicle which does make this mystery a little hard. My current thinking is that it might be an Austin A30 or A40 but please feel free to correct me. For reference, this photograph was taken in Essex in 1958.

I don’t think it’s an A35 because that looks to me to be an external door hinge. Plus the A35 has that raised moulding running the length of the wing and through the side-lamp.

I think you will find that the A30 and the A35 both have the full length raised wing beading and exterior door hinges so it could be either. |

Ray,
My point was that I don’t see the raised moulding. Do you? The picture of the A35 doesn’t show an external hinge.

Yes, I made out the raised moulding - which is in fact plastic piping between the edge of the wing and the bonnet surround. The top of the exposed door hinge is also visible. |

Seems the A35 also has exposed hinges...with vans & Countrypersons having inset door panels as well? Same as A30? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

It depends. Later vans did not have recessed door panels in the doors - although they retained them in the rear quarters.

If what you mean by "raised moulding" is the piping which extends the whole length of the wing top (including through the side light) then yes I can identify it from the mystery photo. All A30s and A35s had external door hinges and part of the n/s front door hinge is also visible in the mystery photo. |

Hi
I suspect that the "raised moulding" referred to might be in respect of the linked flickr pic which shows that the "wood" panel is actually in a recessed panel on the door giving the impression of a raised moulding surrounding the "wood".
This is not obvious in the B/W pic
The driver appears to be Nigel Green so I think this is a still from either a film or TV prog/
Do any of these shown in his filmograhy ring bells

I'm afraid the driver isn't Nigel Green. He's a normal citizen. |

Thanks to everyone who has chipped in so far. Am I to take it that it is at least an Austin, even if it isn't 100% definitely the A30/35 Countryman? |

I would say that if the car is an Austin it would have to be some kind of A30/A35. If not then further identification might not be possible. |
