I've never driven a Maxi myself but have been surprised to see at least two running around locally that seem to be in regular use. |

Ok the maxi had its problems but in a world where the choice was a 3box saloon or a lumbering estate the maxi was an excellent option. I had 2 and drove them many miles. Fortunately mine were post cable controlled gearbox. Yes they used oil and lubricated the clutch with what they didn't burn but they could have been a brilliant motor |

I had the misfortune to own one for three months, and even worse the 1500 one, in harvest gold. As a family tardis it was great, but as a drivers car it was woeful. Seriously under-powered, a rubber gear change and poor fuel consumption. I still bless the day when someone came to see me and showed me their VW Golf. This was like Lazarus rising up and walking, and off I went to the dealership and bought a used 1500cc Golf S. Really basic, no carpets just rubber mats, it was a revelation and I still miss it today. |
