I think the Rover rear window is too small and the spare wheel cover doesn't correspond with the mystery car.

Isnt the Rover rear end a little 'squarer'? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Earlier versions without the boot have a slight slope out towards the bottom and the rear window is a little larger than on the latter cars. _________________ old tourer

Hi Alan,
Were you thinking of this model? It does have a large window but the spare wheel is very low down compared with the mystery car.

The mystery motor also doesn't seem to have quite such large diameter wheels/tyres, as others? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

Yes that's more like the one I was thinking of but on comparing the two it's not quite a match is it. _________________ old tourer

I too think it is European, Fiat maybe but I can't fine a large enough one with suicide doors. The spare wheel cover is European style. |

I still think it has a european look but to throw in a curveball, what about a 35-37 Singer 16? I cant find many photos, especially from the rear. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I'm still with AlanB on this one!
It looks like there were a variety of bumpers & trunks on the pre-war Rovers.
I think the two-tone paint & the perspective are camouflaging the slightly protruding boot, although I don't see any boot handles.
The bumper looks right, the spare wheel is at a good height, the rear window is the right shape & suicide doors.
The plate on the spare could be a dealer plate.

or a just slightly earlier/later year or model. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Radiator shape suggests Humber, but then quite a few cars of the period had similar radiators. The wheels do not look like any Humber ones with which I am familiar. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

If the funny wheels rule out the Humber how about a 1908 Locomobile?

The non-detachable wheels suggests a date not much later than 1908; 12 spokes on the front wheels is quite unusual and suggests a large quality car, but the rear chassis is strange - it appears to be quite flat with only a semi-elliptical spring where I would expect 3/4 or full cantilever on this type of car. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

This car can just be seen on one of the pictures of a Triumph Mayflower for sale by this seller on Ebay - who has some rusty 50s/60s cars for sale: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/princy777/m.html?item=283683919567
That front wing looks a bit like an AC 2 litre or an Alvis TA but it is not. What car is this? _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

I think you are right with the TA14.
The front wing of the AC 2 litre continues its line into the front door.
