It could probably be polished out - for a price - but tbh I'd just look on it as part of the car's history. How about adding a period krooklock? It must be a few years now since this measure was current... |

Hydrofluoric acid is used to etch glass, I would think it could be used with some follow up polishing to remove the original marks, care would be required to avoid making an horrible mess though!

I have similar on my Audi restoration project, not because I had them done but because I replaced the glass with tinted versions (mine was the povery-spec car with plain glass). The glass was etched, and the breakers yard that I bought it from have ground it down to obscure the original registration. I might have a go at polishing them out, as they don't look good. |
