My old 2001 Mercedes C class estate which my son now uses has begun to rust round the wheel arches and a bit on the both ends of the sill just behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels, most of it is caused by paint damage due to stone chips. The car was repainted under warranty in 2007 due to rust spots coming through the paint on the doors, front wings and roof. The underside of the car has no visible rust on the body shell. _________________ old tourer

My 24 year old Rover 620 is just starting to go on the bottom of one of the rear arches, apart from that it’s rust free. I’d love to berate the manufacturer for not making the cars better at resisting corrosion, but I might be slightly out of luck on two counts there! _________________ Richard Hughes |
